Almost 11,000 pregnant Russian women have arrived to Argentina in a very short brief of time since the war in Ukraina broke out. The country is now afraid of the sudden “invasion” of Russians and that the Mafia is helping them out to get Argentinian passports for their unborn babys.

The South American country has seen an enormous rise of pregnant Russian women and their spouses coming to Argentina. The immigration authorities are now cracking down on the women, who since the invasion of Ukraine, have started travelling to Buenos Aires to give birth in order to gain Argentinian citizenship for their children.

The director of Argentina’s immigration office, Florencia Carignano, said on Friday that a judicial investigation has been launched into what she described as a lucrative business that promises Argentinian passports for the Russian parents.

“We detected a significant increase in the entry of Russian citizens in recent months. That is why we decided to investigate, and we interviewed 350 of them who were in advanced pregnancy,” said Carignano.

Carignano also wrote on Twitter on Sunday that mafia organizations are profiting from these trips, by offering packages to the Russian women, in order to obtain Argentinian passport to people who do not actually want to reside in the country.

“Argentina has a migrant tradition of which we are proud, but we face the mafias that take advantage of this to attack our passport system, which is among the 20 most secure in the world…”, Carignano wrote.
